Melt in your mouth brisket. To die for brisket. Serve in a million different ways, brisket. The brisket we all need in our life.
I'm crossing all fingers and toes that you have access to all of the ingredients - however please dive deep into alternatives of the healthy BBQ sauce I have recommended if you can't get your hands on some of this exact brand. However, if you can't, you may swap with tomato paste (slightly less) and a little dash of maple syrup. Whilst it won't be the exact same, it'll still be delicious.
Ingredients:
- 1kg of brisket (thereabouts - they will all vary but it will likely still work out perfect!); we love Locovore in Byron Bay for meats we can trust.
- 1/3 cup BBQ sauce of choice (we recommend Undivided Food Co as the ingredients are pure and sugar free). If you can't find one alike that has clean ingredients, you could try using a slightly less amount of tomato paste along with a dash of maple syrup, along with the rest of the ingredients. It will likely turn out almost as perfect as this one!
- 1 Tbsp olive oil or alternative
- 3 tsps garlic powder OR garlic granules
- 2 tsps dried herbs of choice such as; 1 tsp thyme and 1 tsp of oregano OR 2 tsp mixed Italian herbs
- 1 tsp salt
- A sprinkle of pepper to taste
- 1-2 cups filtered water
- To serve; additional sprinkle of salt, Undivided Food Co chilli sauce, lemon juice, vegetables of choice. We love it on lettuce cups with a cucumber, capsicum, herb and lemon juice salsa
Method:
1. Preheat your oven to 170 degrees celcius.
2. Add the brisket (fatty side up!) into a semi-deep baking tray.
3. In a little bowl, combine the BBQ sauce, olive oil, garlic, dried herbs, salt and pepper.
4. Poke 5-10 of holes with a knife into the brisket and then lather the sauce evenly over the top of the brisket and along the sides.
5. Add in the water, and then tightly cover the tray with alfoil.
6. Place in the oven for 4 1/2-5 hours or until you can pull the sides of meat apart with a fork.
7. Once it is ready, check that there is still water in the pan and if not, add a little dash more.
8. Remove the alfoil and allow to cook again for another 15-30 minutes or until the top has gone slightly crispy or more firm.
9. Remove from the oven, and keep it covered until you're ready to serve with your choice of sides.
Enjoy!
